Feuer Illustration prides itself on friendly and efficient service. The illustration process is designed to foster creativity, endorse constructive criticism, and to be fun for everyone involved.
Most initial consultations produce a series of rough sketches, both by the artist and the client. It is the most effective way of assuring that the client and artist are on the same page, literally. This can be very important for discussing raw material, such as innovative surgical techniques, patent illustrations, or conceptual flow charts. At times, the subject matter is common medical knowledge, and input from the client at this stage is necessary only for style and medium of rendering. Photos and reference materials are always helpful at this stage. If subject matter involves a surgical procedure with little or no documentation, an OR observation can be scheduled with the artist. Photo shoots can also be arranged by the artist if reference photography is deemed beneficial.
When a cost estimate and contract have been approved by the artist and client, pencil sketches are rendered and reviewed for accuracy. Two rounds of sketches, revisions and approvals are commonplace to refine the material. Sketches are often sent and reviewed electronically, but per the client’s preferences, meetings can be scheduled to review in person.
Approved sketches are developed into rendered illustrations with appropriate checkpoints and reviews throughout. Medical illustrations convey highly specialized content, and great care is taken to ensure accuracy at every stage of development.
